SAN DIEGO — Authorities have released the identity of a 40-year-old U.S. citizen who died after a border inspector shot him with a stun gun at the nation's busiest crossing on Christmas Eve.
The San Diego County medical examiner says Tuesday that the man is Francisco Manuel Cesena of El Cajon. A cause of death for Cesena has yet to be released.
San Diego police said he jumped over a counter and attacked an inspector after being taken to a separate area for questioning at the San Ysidro port of entry connecting San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico last Wednesday. A records check showed he was wanted on a felony charge.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Cesena was "combative" and attacked two inspectors. The agency said officers found heroin during a body search.
