NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A grand jury has indicted a Florida man in a crash that caused the death of a Nashville, Tennessee, police officer.
Officer Michael Petrina was killed in May when he was struck by a motor home on Interstate 65 while directing traffic after a vehicle overturned near Brentwood. The officer and a Tennessee Department of Transportation Help Truck operator had blocked two of the four lanes as the vehicle was being cleared.
Police say 71-year-old Dean Joseph Diver of Key Largo, Florida, tried to drive between Petrina's police car and the Help Truck but ended up hitting the officer.
Media report a grand jury indicted him on charges of reckless homicide and failure to yield. Diver turned himself in on Tuesday at police headquarters in Nashville.
It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
