NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — New Haven authorities say several pharmacy employees have been sent to a hospital for evaluation after a spill of some substances.

The fire department is investigating the incident Wednesday at the Walgreen's Pharmacy on York Street.

Laurence Grotheer, a city spokesman, says four employees were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and one was discharged. A hospital spokesman says three employees were brought to the hospital and were in fair condition with inhalation exposure and expected to be discharged. One may have skin exposure.

Grotheer says the substances were phenol, eucalyptus and liquid aspirin.

Walgreens says employees noticed an odor and contacted authorities. The company says the safety of employees and customers is its top priority and is helping with the investigation.
