PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — State health officials have recommended the closure to swimming of six beaches in Rhode Island because of high bacteria counts in the water.

Affected beaches are Atlantic Beach Club Beach in Middletown; Bristol Town Beach; Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick; Fogland Beach and Grinell's Beach in Tiverton; and Warren Town Beach.

Water tests will continue. The department will recommend the beaches reopen to swimmers when bacteria levels fall to within acceptable limits.

The health department conducts water quality checks all summer long to ensure safe conditions.
