NEW YORK — The city's department of buildings will examine all active crane rigging work performed by the company working at the site where an 11.5 ton air conditioner unit fell onto Madison Avenue.

Skylift Contractor was performing work at 261 Madison Avenue Sunday when the unit plummeted to the street, shattering parts of the building facade. Ten people were injured. All were expected to recover.

Records show the company was approved to operate a 375-foot crane to lift the massive AC unit to the top floors of the 28-story building. City officials said Monday the other sites will be checked as a precaution. A call to the contractor wasn't returned.

Traffic remained closed on Madison Avenue as the investigation continues, but debris and the crane have been removed.
