BOSTON — The city of Revere and a union representing Suffolk Downs workers have sued the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which awarded a coveted Boston-area casino license to rival Wynn Resorts in nearby Everett.

The lawsuit Thursday says the commission gave Wynn an unfair advantage in its decision last month and violated the state's gambling law. It asks the court to void the decision.

Connecticut-based Mohegan Sun had proposed the project at Suffolk Downs, which says it will close without the casino. The 145 union workers who joined the lawsuit are losing their jobs.

Revere Mayor Daniel Rizzo invited Mohegan Sun to move its proposal to the Revere side of Suffolk Downs when East Boston voters rejected a casino in their borders last year.

A commission spokesman said it's confident the process was fair, but understands unsuccessful applicants are disappointed.
