DEARBORN, Michigan — About 250 southeastern Michigan high school students will meet to develop strategies to improve race relations in their schools and neighborhoods.
The daylong Youth Leadership Summit on Race will be held Saturday at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The program is sponsored by civil rights advocacy group New Detroit Inc. and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
About 65 schools in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties will be represented Saturday. More than 1,300 students have participated in the annual summit since 2006.
New Detroit President and Chief Executive Shirley Stancato says the summit "proves that young people from all races and socio-economic backgrounds can work together to confront issues related to racial inequity and stereotyping."
