DUBUQUE, Iowa — A Dubuque man has been charged in the attack of his housemate with a hammer.

The Telegraph Herald ( ) reports 40-year-old Ryan B. Collins was charged with going armed with intent and operating while intoxicated. He made his first court appearance Wednesday.

According to court documents, officers responded to a fight Tuesday night. The documents say 48-year-old Alan S. Johnson told police Collins drove his car and returned from the gas station with damage to the car.

The documents say Johnson confronted Collins, who went in the home and retrieved a hammer. Johnson said Collins swung multiple times before Johnson managed to disarm him. Johnson said Collins then took him to the ground and punched him in the face repeatedly.

It was not immediately clear if Collins has an attorney.
