PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Health officials in Rhode Island have recommended closing a Portsmouth beach and reopening two beaches in Warwick.

The state Department of Health announced Wednesday that Sandy Point Beach has been closed to swimmers due to high bacteria counts.

Officials say Conimicut Point and Oakland Beach in Warwick were reopened after testing indicated improved water quality.

Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown and Easton's Beach in Newport remain closed.

The state regularly monitors water quality at beaches throughout the summer months to ensure safe conditions for swimmers.
