LAS VEGAS — Fire officials say 20 people were displaced and two cats were rescued during a fire at an apartment complex in Las Vegas.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan says one of the cats had to be resuscitated, but no people were injured in the fire a little after 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Las Vegas firefighters helped county fire crews battle flames that gutted a second-floor apartment and damaged three neighboring units at the complex on Swenson Street near Twain Avenue. That's several blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip.

Damage was estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Buchanan says the cats were turned over to animal control officers.
