GEORGETOWN, Delaware — Corrections officials say an inmate at Sussex Correctional Institution has apparently committed suicide.

The Department of Correction says 46-year-old David Boyce of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, died Tuesday at a Delaware hospital.

Prisons officials say Boyce was transferred to Delaware's custody in January 2013 through an interstate compact agreement with Massachusetts.

According to online records, Boyce pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the February 1990 stabbing of Gregory Aldrich. Documents indicate that Boyce and Aldrich, who had been drinking together for hours in Hamilton, Massachusetts, got into an argument, and Boyce stabbed Aldrich.

The documents state that Boyce threw Aldrich's body into the Connecticut River, where it was found months later.

Boyce's body will be turned over to the medical examiner's office, as is standard practice.
