NORWALK, Connecticut — A Connecticut woman left her 22-month-old son alone in her SUV outside a bar while she had drinks with friends, police said.

Christina Failla, 32, of Weston, was charged with felony risk of injury to a minor early Sunday morning. She was taken to a hospital for an evaluation after allegedly threatening to kill police officers and other people after her arrest, authorities said.

A phone message seeking comment was left at a listing for Failla's address Monday. It wasn't clear if she had a lawyer.

A man told police he was walking near the Harlan Publick bar and restaurant in Norwalk just before midnight Saturday when he noticed a young boy sleeping in the passenger seat of a locked SUV, according to a police report obtained by The Hour newspaper (http://bit.ly/1o4T3Gx ). He waited about a half hour for the parents to return, then called police, authorities said.

Police unlocked the car and removed the child. At about 12:45 a.m., Failla returned to the vehicle and told police that she thought it was OK to leave the boy in the car while she went to see friends for a few minutes, police said.

A witness told police that he saw Failla drink several alcoholic beverages at the bar, and police said they smelled alcohol on Failla's breath.

Authorities left the boy in the custody of his grandmother, who lives with the child's father.

Police set bond at $5,000. Failla is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 27.
