HAMPTON, Iowa — A swimming advisory has been issued for Beeds Lake State Park in north-central Iowa after water tests showed possible E. coli contamination.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1K0SsER ) that a sample from the lake exceeded the one-time maximum of 235 E. coli per 100 millimeters of water.

The advisory does not mean the beach is closed, but anyone swimming there should take precautions, including showering shortly after swimming and avoiding ingesting lake water.
