OXNARD, California — Authorities say a police officer in Oxnard has shot and killed a woman who charged at the officer and her boyfriend with a knife.
Police Chief Jeri Williams said 26-year-old Meagan Hockaday was pronounced dead shortly the encounter early Saturday at an apartment complex.
The officer went to there around 1 a.m. to respond to a domestic dispute call. Williams said when the officer arrived to talk to Hockaday's boyfriend, who had made the call, the woman charged at them with a knife and was shot dead.
The Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/1BRJIbD ) reports the couple's three children were in the apartment when the shooting occurred.
The officer involved in the shooting was an eight-year veteran of the department. He was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
