COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A man convicted of second-degree murder in connection with a slaying near Colorado Springs has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.

KRDO-TV reports (http://goo.gl/y3o01H ) Michael Malory was sentenced Friday for the death of 37-year-old Daniel Baird, whose body was found May 3, 2014, with two gunshot wounds on the floor of Malory's Security-Widefield home. Malory was convicted in October.

He and two other men were arrested on suspicion of plotting to kill Baird. Brian Springsted was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He is serving life in prison without parole.

Malory's son, Nathan Varnadore, pleaded guilty to being an accessory to the crime.
