FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin — Crews have rescued two Fond du Lac residents from a capsized sailboat on Lake Winnebago.

The Fond du Lac Sheriff's Office Water Patrol and Rescue responded Friday afternoon after the 16-foot sailboat capsized about three-fourths of a mile west of a boat launch.

One of the people who was aboard the sailboat used a cellphone to call for help. Both boaters were in the water and needed help.

The boaters — ages 23 and 22 — were wearing lifejackets and had held themselves together until they were rescued. Both were unhurt and taken to shore to be checked out.

The sailboat submerged and is believed to be drifting due to 3-foot waves. Authorities were unable to locate the sailboat.
