HUY, Belgium — Swiss veteran Fabian Cancellara defends the yellow jersey as riders set off on the third stage of the Tour de France, as the showcase race swings from the Netherlands into neighboring Belgium.

Cancellara took the leader's jersey from Australian rider Rohan Dennis on Sunday's rain-soaked and wind-battered second stage along the Dutch coastline; where defending champion Vincenzo Nibali and Nairo Quintana lost valuable time to Tour rivals Chris Froome and Alberto Contador after getting dropped by the front group.

Stage three, 159.5 kilometers (99 miles) from Antwerp to Huy, promises to once again be eventful with four climbs. It culminates in a sharp ascent of 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) up Mur de Huy.

The 34-year-old Cancellara is wearing the yellow jersey for the 29th day overall in his long career.
