WASHINGTON — A man convicted of killing a witness to a 2000 murder in Washington has been sentenced to 38 years to life in prison.

Thirty-seven-year-old Anthony Gray of Washington was sentenced Friday in D.C. Superior Court for killing 20-year-old Robert McManus.

Prosecutors said Gray was part of a group that sold drugs and committed other crimes in Southeast Washington in the 1990s. Authorities said that when two group members were about to go on trial for a 1999 murder, Gray and another person kidnapped McManus, who was a witness, and shot him to prevent him from testifying.
