NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A Nevada woman is credited with saving her two grandchildren from a fire by dropping them from a second-story window into the arms of a police officer and the children's grandfather below.

North Las Vegas fire Capt. Cedric Williams tells KTNV-TV (http://bit.ly/1FnBE9K ) that firefighters got the grandmother out of the burning home by putting a ladder to the window as they battled the fire about 1:45 a.m. Monday.

The woman and the children, ages 7 and 9, were treated for smoke exposure. They are expected to recover.

Officials say two dogs also were rescued from the fire. Its cause is under investigation.

The American Red Cross was helping the two adults, the two children and the dogs.
