CROMWELL, Connecticut — Officials with the Travelers Championship have announced they will hold the 2016 golf tournament during the first week of August as the PGA Tour shuffles its schedule to accommodate the Olympics.

The tournament has typically been held during the third week of June, the week following the U.S. Open.

Tournament director Nathan Grube says the move also will allow officials at the TPC River Highlands to finish some planned modifications to the course.

That project, which begins this fall, includes installing new grandstands around the finishing holes and modifications to some greens and bunkers.

The 2016 tournament will be played a week after the 2016 PGA Championship in New Jersey.
