COLUMBUS, Mississippi — Lowndes County school patrons will be asked to approve a $44 million bond issue.

The school board voted 3-2 Monday to hold the bond issue vote at the same time a special election is held to fill the remaining term of the late U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee. The governor has yet to announce a date for the special election.

The bond issue would include $11 million for a centralized career-technical center; $26 million for a new high school on the New Hope campus; $3 million for upgrades and additions at the Caledonia campus; $1.9 million for a new field house at Caledonia; and $2 million for renovations on the West Lowndes campus.

Last August, a $47 million bond proposal failed to get enough votes to pass.
