WASHINGTON — Authorities in D.C. say two people are dead after a fire at a northwest Washington rowhouse.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a three-story rowhouse in the 1600 block of Riggs Place northwest.

D.C. police spokesman Lt. Sean Conboy says two adults injured in the fire have died. He did not have further information.

Fire department spokesman Timothy Wilson says two people were taken to a hospital in critical condition and two others had serious, but not life-threatening injuries. He says three firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

Wilson says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
