SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities continue to investigate an accident that shut down a busy commuter train route south of Salt Lake City during Wednesday evening's commute.
The Utah Transit Authority says hundreds of commuters were delayed after a FrontRunner train collided with a pedestrian south of the Draper station about 4:30 p.m.
The authority says it appears to have been a suicide. The train's operator told investigators the unidentified victim laid down across the tracks as the train approached.
The accident closed both the northbound and southbound tracks.
The Transit Authority dispatched a fleet of buses to help shuttle passengers between stations in Lehi and Draper.
