INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana and Purdue now have New Year's Eve plans.

Both schools will open the 2014-15 Big Ten season Dec. 31, conference officials announced Thursday. The Boilermakers will host Minnesota, and the Hoosiers will visit Nebraska.

It's the sixth consecutive season Indiana has started league play on New Year's Eve — and the third straight year it has hit the road for the conference opener.

The Hoosiers finish league play with back-to-back home games March 3 against Iowa and March 7 against Michigan State. Purdue closes out Big Ten play at home against rival Illinois on March 7.

Defending Big Ten champ Michigan travels to Purdue on Jan. 3 and plays at Indiana on Feb. 8.

League officials also announced the women's league schedules Thursday.
