Trial set for Vancleave woman accused in embezzlement of $41,000 from church

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — A May 13 trial date has been set for a Vancleave woman accused in the embezzlement of tens of thousands of dollars from a church over nearly a two-year period.

The Sun Herald reports ( ) a grand jury indicted Teresa Lynette Bilbo on a charge of embezzlement by trust or contract.

Bilbo is accused of embezzling about $41,000 from Magnolia Baptist Church in Jackson County.

At the time of the embezzlement, records say, Bilbo was treasurer at the church.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department investigated the case, first arresting Bilbo on Feb. 14, 2013.

Bilbo is free on a $5,000 bond.

If convicted, she is facing a prison term of up to 10 years and up to a $25,000 fine.
