BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Tre Lynch scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and Southern U. beat Alcorn State 71-63 on Saturday.

Lynch was 7 of 13 from the floor as Southern (15-15, 12-4 Southwestern) remains in third place in the conference with two games to go. They finish the season March 7 at SWAC leader Texas Southern (13-2).

Frank Snow and Joell Hopkins added 11 points apiece for the Jaguars, who shot 51 percent and won the rebound battle 41-28.

Alcorn State (5-23, 4-12) was led by LeAntwan Luckett with 19 points and Marquis Vance added 15 points.

Hopkins' jumper with 1:22 left in the first tied it at 29, and the score stood at the break.

It was all Southern U. in the second half as the Jaguars led by as much as 11, never allowing Alcorn State to tie or lead after intermission.
