PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Rhode Island's unemployment rate fell to 5.3 percent in October, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.
It marks the lowest unemployment rate in the state in more than eight years, since August 2007.
The state Department of Labor and Training said Thursday the number of unemployed residents fell to 29,400, a drop of 1,000 from September.
The rate has fallen 1.8 percentage points since October 2014.
Rhode Island's unemployment rate remains higher than the national rate of 5 percent.
