STONE MOUNTAIN, Georgia — DeKalb County police say the 25-year-old uncle of a Stone Mountain toddler who was fatally shot earlier this week is now charged with murder.
Capt. Steve Fore says medical investigators have determined that 2-year-old Kamarri Lewis could not have shot himself on Monday morning and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Fore says Detray Shivers is charged with murder and is being held in the DeKalb County jail. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
Police have said a handgun was recovered in a drainage area near the home where the boy's body was found. Authorities have said the boy's aunt, 23-year-old Alexia Thomas, was supposed to be watching Lewis while his mother was at work, but told investigators she was asleep at the time of the shooting.
