AVONDALE, Arizona — The body of a woman who reportedly jumped into a canal in Avondale has been recovered by authorities.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/WImt7C) the woman allegedly jumped in behind a car wash near McDowell Road and 99th Avenue on Saturday morning.

Firefighters from Phoenix and Avondale say she was dead by the time they reached her in the water half a mile away.

Avondale Fire spokesman Steve Ellsworth says the body had been moving at a high rate of speed and was found floating face-down.

Phoenix police say no foul play appears to have been involved.

The county medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
