PHOENIX — Arizona's unemployment rate rose to 6.9 percent in June, up from 6.8 percent the month before.
State economists said Thursday that by comparison, Arizona's jobless rate was 8.1 percent a year ago.
The national unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point to 6.1 percent in June.
According to state economists, five of the 11 major sectors added jobs and six reported losses over the month.
Arizona lost 39,500 nonfarm jobs in June. Losses were primarily in government, which shed 36,000 jobs.
Professional and business services added 3,900 jobs, financial activities gained 2,200 jobs and manufacturing added 900 jobs.
