LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Officials have identified the man who was fatally shot by two police officers in Louisville, Kentucky, after he allegedly charged at them while holding a knife.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Eddie Robinson on Thursday identified the man as 18-year-old Tyler Alexander Dattilo. Robinson said Dattilo had an identification card that listed an address in Crestview, Florida. He said officials are trying to locate his next of kin.

According to media reports, Dattilo died Wednesday night outside of a Metro Louisville gas station after confronting the officers. Police Chief Steve Conrad said Dattilo said something threatening to the officers and charged at them with a knife before they fired.

Conrad says there is at least one video of the incident, which will be released.

"I have seen the video and my statement is based on what I saw in the video," he said.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Conrad said it is too early to determine whether officers followed all department policies during the confrontation.

"I'm not making any conclusions. This matter is under investigation. We are so early in the investigation that it would be irresponsible of me to make any conclusions on whether or not the shooting is justified," Conrad said.
