WATERVILLE, Maine — Maine's Colby College is inaugurating a former a University of Chicago administrator to serve as the 20th president of the private liberal arts college.
David Greene is delivering his first public address as president at Saturday's installation ceremony in Waterville.
He'll also presenting honorary degrees to David Axelrod, former adviser to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama; Sen. Susan Collins, who's known for facilitating compromise in Congress; Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and Robert Zimmer, mathematician and president of the University of Chicago.
Greene is succeeding William Adams, Colby's president since 2000.
Under Adams' tenure, Colby's academic program has grown, the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement was founded, and a new center for the arts and humanities opened.
