RIVERHEAD, New York — Police say a Long Island woman has been arrested on child endangerment charges after allegedly leaving her young daughter home alone.

Riverhead Town Police said 26-year-old Amanda Burris was arrested around 5 a.m. Saturday on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police allege she left her 4-year-old daughter alone in her apartment while she "went out socializing for the night."

Investigators did not say how long the young girl was left alone.

Police were called after the young girl was found wandering through the apartment complex by herself.

Authorities notified child welfare officials before the young girl, who was not injured, was picked up at the police station by a relative.

It was not immediately clear whether Burris had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
