STONY BROOK, New York — Jameel Warney and Rayshaun McGrew each racked up a double-double in scoring and rebounding as Stony Brook survived a blizzard of 3-pointers to defeat New Hampshire 71-61 on Saturday in an America East Conference opener for both teams.

Warney scored 22 and hauled down 10 boards while McGrew scored 14 with 12 rebounds — his fifth double-double of the season — for Stony Brook (9-6, 1-0).

New Hampshire (6-7, 0-1) threw up 22 3-pointers, making 11, but Stony Brook outrebounded the Wildcats 42-22 — including 28 boards off the defensive glass.

Daniel Dion led New Hampshire with 19 points, including 5 of 5 from long range, and Tanner Leissner added 13.

Leissner hit a pair of 3s and Dion one in an 11-2 rally as New Hampshire led 34-29 after halftime. But McGrew and Warney scored back-to-back baskets to reclaim the lead 39-38 and the Seawolves stretched it at the foul line.
