INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Court of Appeals upheld an 81-year prison sentence Friday given to a man convicted of abducting and killing a 19-year-old woman and dumping her body in a rural lake last year.

The court said Jordan Buskirk's sentence was appropriate. He pleaded guilty in Greene County Court in December to charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit rape and criminal confinement in the death of Katelyn Wolfe.

Buskirk had appealed, saying he had shown remorse for the crime. His attorney, Kimberly Jackson, had no comment when contacted Friday by The Associated Press.

"The depraved nature of Wolfe's murder, not Buskirk's eventual, pragmatic cooperation, is the most telling reflection of his character," Judge Ezra Friedlander wrote in the three-judge panel's unanimous decision. "Buskirk decided to rape and murder someone just for the experience of it," Friedlander wrote.

Buskirk, 27, of Jasonville, told investigators he and 26-year-old Randal Crosley, also of Jasonville, had discussed raping and killing a stranger, saying it "was just something that popped into their heads," according to court documents. Crosley also was convicted and sentenced to 81 years in prison.

Buskirk told investigators that he and Crosley picked up Wolfe, to whom they had previously sold Valium, near her home about 30 miles southeast of Terre Haute. They fatally choked her along a rural road, placed her body in the trunk of Buskirk's car and drove around getting high before arriving at the lake, court documents said.

The woman's body was found tied to a 20-pound weight in a lake in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest on June 10, 2013, five days after Wolfe was last seen.
