HUNTINGTON LAKE, California — Authorities say they've found a backpacker more than three days overdue from a hike in the mountains of Central California.

Deputy Christian Curtice of the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that 62-year-old William Roberts of Lexington, Virginia, is in good health after going missing in an area of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park about 70 miles northeast of Fresno. Relatives reported him missing Wednesday.

Curtice says rescuers first found Robert's rental car covered in snow parked at a trailhead.

He says more than 30 people looked on the ground with help from three helicopters overhead; the search covered 35 square miles at high altitudes.

Curtice says Roberts is being transported down from the mountains, but he had no more details of what delayed the hiker.
