JACKSON, Mississippi — The former finance director for the Jackson Public Schools has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

According to multiple media reports, David Setzer, who is no longer with the school district, entered the plea Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court.

Setzer served as director of finance for the district from 1996 to 2014.

Prosecutors say Setzer took $26,923 by authorizing a fake employee number which he used to transfer money to his own account. They say funds were transferred through 10 separate transactions from Aug. 1, 2013 to Aug. 30, 2014.

As part of the plea deal, Setzer repaid the $26,923 in court on Monday and received five years' probation.
