RICHMOND, Indiana — Municipal officials across the state are praising the state's latest awarding of $4.3 million in loans to remove abandoned, blighted properties from their communities.
Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann announced this week that Richmond will receive another $1.3 million toward the effort after the western Indiana city received $2 million last year. Mayor Sally Hutton tells the Palladium-Item the total funding will remove 138 homes and improve her community.
Richmond received one of the largest amounts in the latest round of funding, along with Kokomo, which will receive $1.75 million. Ellspermann's office announced seven municipalities and three counties would receive funding.
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight tells WISH-TV his city will remove more than 140 abandoned and dilapidated houses that are neighborhood eyesores.
