The National Weather Service says widespread precipitation is forecast ahead of a strong cold front moving across northern Alabama Wednesday afternoon.
Forecasters say rain will change to freezing rain across northwest Alabama by late Wednesday night.
The weather service expects the area of freezing rain to spread across more of northern Alabama by early Thursday morning.
Forecasters say ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch in parts of northern Alabama are expected before sunrise Thursday.
The weather service said some freezing rain is also possible Thursday morning in the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Gadsden areas.
