PITTSBORO, North Carolina — Authorities say more than 150 animals in need of veterinary care and living in unsanitary conditions have been removed from property in Chatham County.

Some animals were taken to rescue groups while others went to an emergency shelter for medical treatment.

Chatham County Animal Services director Leigh Anne Garrard says her office tried to work with the owner to get proper care for the animals before removing them.

Officials with animal services received a report of cats and dogs being kept in a small mobile home and livestock lacking proper care.

County officials will provide more information about donations and potential adoptions after the animals have received medical care.
