BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — A family whose 15-year-old daughter died less than two months after attempting suicide while a patient at Brattleboro Retreat has sued the psychiatric hospital, saying it failed to use reasonable care and skill to care for her.

A spokesman for the Retreat tells the Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) the family has the Retreat's deepest sympathy, but since litigation has been started, further comment would be inappropriate.

The lawsuit says the teen was at the Retreat from April 29 to May 5, 2014, attempting suicide by hanging herself with a pair of jeans. Staff used CPR and an automated external defibrillator to resuscitate her and she was transferred to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court, seeks damages and a jury trial.
