LUCEDALE, Mississippi — Ricky Murrah was a 55-year-old Mississippi Department of Transportation maintenance worker who died when a pickup swerved off the road and hit him in July 2014.

WLOX-TV (http://bit.ly/1iVPQ1f ) reports now, a two-mile stretch of Highway 98, just east of Lucedale, bears his name.

A memorial service to dedicate the new sign was held Friday at Murrah Hill Revival Center, a small church where Murrah's father, James Murrah, is pastor. Friends and fellow MDOT employees remembered Ricky Murrah as a dedicated public servant with a great sense of humor who loved the outdoors and enjoyed his job.

Southern District Highway Commissioner Tom King cautions travelers to always be mindful of maintenance crews who are working at risk to keep roads safe for the traveling public.
