AMSTERDAM — Anass Achahbar scored a stunning brace Sunday as third-place Feyenoord beat Eredivisie leader PSV 2-1 to cut the Eindhoven club's lead over Ajax to eight points.
Ajax struggled to a 1-0 victory over ADO The Hague to keep pressure on PSV.
Achahbar scored first in the 59th minute with a sweetly struck volley, allowing a long pass to fall over his shoulder and smashing the ball into the far corner.
His second was another left-foot volley four minutes later. This time he controlled the ball on his chest before firing into the same corner.
Achahbar, who scored a late winner as a substitute last week and was rewarded with a place in the starting lineup against PSV, said he thought his first goal was the best.
"I saw the ball coming and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it," he said. "It's fantastic it flew in like that."
Memphis Depay scored PSV's goal in the 68th to take his season's tally to a league-leading 17.
In Amsterdam, defending champion Ajax looked like it might not take advantage of PSV's stumble until midfielder Davy Klaassen's glancing header deflected off ADO striker Xander Houtkoop and into the net to break the deadlock in the 80th.
