SALT LAKE CITY — A 24-year-old man has admitted to a fatal shooting that took place at a Salt Lake City party in 2012.

Court records show Phillip James Lucero pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of second-degree felony manslaughter. He's set to be sentenced Jan. 8.

Police say Lucero was fighting with 20-year-old Valentin Sigala Jr. at a party on Oct. 28, 2012, when Lucero shot Sigala in the chest.

Authorities say Sigala's friends loaded him into a vehicle and dropped him off at Intermountain Medical Center before leaving. Sigala was pronounced dead shortly after.

Officers say Lucero showed up to the police station the next day and turned himself in.
