ALLEN PARK, Michigan — An official says a 62-year-old woman who died following a fire at a suburban Detroit senior citizen housing complex tried to alert other residents to the blaze.

Andrew Hill, executive director of the Allen Park Housing Commission, tells WXYZ-TV ( ) that Christine Bentley went door-to-door early Monday to alert other tenants at the two-story Leo Paluch complex in Allen Park.

Hill says the fire started in Bentley's second-floor apartment. He says he believes her actions to warn others helped save lives. Several people were injured, but the station reports they're all out of the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Dozens of people were evacuated. Hill says most tenants will be able to return to their apartments on Friday. Repairs are expected to take months.
