BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — Investigators who have been searching for a missing Bridgeport woman have found unidentified human remains, and a person of interest in the case has apparently taken his own life, police said Monday night.

Police said investigators looking for Minnie Lincoln, 57, found the remains in a marshy area behind an industrial site in Stratford on Monday after they developed strong leads.

They returned Monday night to the Stratford home of 36-year-old Marcus Jackson, the last person seen with Lincoln on March 27. Officers who knocked on Jackson's door said they heard a gunshot, and found Jackson dead inside the house from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lincoln was last seen the night of March 27 leaving the Old Timers Club with Jackson, its owner. They were seen driving away in Jackson's pickup truck, police said. Her family reported her missing March 31.

Jackson had been interviewed by detectives last Thursday and missed a requested follow-up interview, but police said they later found him inside his car at Mohegan Sun. Police seized his truck.

Detectives also spoke with other witnesses and reviewed hours of security footage, leading them to the Stratford site where the remains were found, police said.

Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett said his department and Stratford police worked the state police and the FBI on the case.

"This is a horrible episode and our thoughts go out to the communities in Bridgeport and Stratford," said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. "Police have worked tirelessly trying to find and bring Minnie home. But, there is information we do not yet know. Detectives are continuing to search for those answers."
