GULFPORT, Mississippi — A Carriere man is asking a federal judge to throw out his conviction and give him a new trial in a case involving more than 20,000 pornographic pictures and videos of children.

James Allen Myers, 66, was convicted on multiple child pornography charges in August in U.S. District Court in Gulfport. He faces up to 80 years in prison at sentencing on Nov. 4.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1oDfSTe ) the Myers argues in his motion that the judge erred in allowing into evidence items seized in a search of his home in 2013.

Chief Judge Louis Guirola Jr. had ruled during Myer's trial that the search was legal and allowed the jury to hear the evidence.

Guirola has not ruled on Myers' motion.

Myers was convicted on a charge of transportation of child pornography and six counts of possession of child pornography. The transportation charge carries a maximum prison term of 20 years. Each count of child pornography carries up to 10 years.
