FORT WAYNE, Indiana — A former Fort Wayne police officer has been sentenced to six years in prison for raping a woman he had arrested for drunken driving.

Superior Court Judge Fran Gull handed down the sentence to 46-year-old Mark Rogers, suspending four years of a 10-year sentence as called for in a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Last month, Rogers pleaded guilty to felony counts of rape, sexual misconduct and official misconduct.

During Friday's sentencing hearing, the former 19-year-veteran apologized to police officers for the harm he caused them and the community.

Authorities said Rogers stopped the woman in September 2013 and took her to a hospital for treatment of a high intoxication level. Prosecutors say Rogers took her to a city park after she was released and had sex with her.
