DES MOINES, Iowa — A man awaiting extradition from Colorado to face a homicide charge in Iowa also is accused of violating parole.

Des Moines police say 29-year-old Carl West was arrested Wednesday in Aurora, Colorado. Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek says West will be formally charged with first-degree murder when he's returned to Iowa.

The online court filing doesn't spell out the circumstances of the allegation that West violated parole on July 23.

West is accused of shooting to death Matthew Cizek, who was found near his Des Moines home on Sept. 11. Police say he died later at a hospital.

Police have said they think the two men knew each other.
