SPENCER, Indiana — A judge has sentenced a former Monroe County auditor to three months on home detention for using county-issued credit cards for personal purchases including her children's private school tuition.
Owen Circuit Judge Lori Quillen sentenced Amy Gerstman to 18 months in jail Friday but suspended 15 months and ordered the remainder to be served at home.
The 44-year-old Bloomington woman pleaded guilty to felony official misconduct and misdemeanor conversion, which was reduced from felony theft. The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1AVPMQY ) five other theft charges were dismissed under a plea agreement.
Gerstman, a Democrat, was auditor from 2009 to 2012.
Prosecutors said she used county-issued credit cards for items including clothing, a trip to Key West and $1,800 for her children's tuition.
Judge Quillen rejected an earlier plea agreement in the case.
